The Update for week ending 16th November

Hello Fellow Cravers. It’s time to get updated on the weeks news, UK charts and game releases this week.

3) Unearthed E.T. Cartridges sell for more then $1500

The first cartridges unearthed from Atari’s legendary landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico have been sold on eBay, with multiple copies of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600 making more than $1,500, despite their damaged and dirty state.

The highest current bid for a crushed but authentic copy of E.T. from the dumping ground was $1,537.

The city of Alamogordo, through the Tularosa Basin Historical Society, put 100 cartridges excavated from the landfill on eBay last week. The lot included Atari 2600 games like Asteroids, Centipede, Defender and the infamous E.T., which brought in the highest bids. Copies of games like Missile Command and Star Raiders came in at the low end of bidding; one copy of Missile Command went for just $157.50 earlier this week.

The cartridges come with a numbered certificate of authenticity from the city of Alamogordo, a city property ID tag and “a narrative with photos of the 1983 burial and the 2014 excavation proving the legend to be true.” The games were “sold as-is” and aren’t guaranteed to work, should a buyer attempt to play them (though most didn’t before they were buried).

The city of Alamogordo voted earlier this year to distribute 1,300 cartridges pulled from the landfill. Between 700 and 800 of the Atari 2600 games will be sold, while others have been given to museums. In total, more than 750,000 cartridges are said to have been dug up.

2) Pokemon Omega and Alpha to introduce a ‘Delta Episode’ which include an Asteroid

The latest trailer for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire introduces a new “Delta Episode” in which players must save Hoenn from a giant asteroid, The Pokémon Company International announced this week.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are the upcoming remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire; in addition to updated visuals, the games include new Mega-Evolutions and features. In the Delta Episode, players will learn the history of the Hoenn region and get swept up in a battle to save the earth. While they protect a research facility called the Mossdeep Space Center from Team Magma or Team Aqua (depends which version you play), Pokémon Rayquaza and Deoxys clash in space to “determine the future of Hoenn.”

The Delta Episode will also introduce “a mysterious girl rumored to possess the key to the fate of the world” named Zinnia. Check out the trailer above for a look at the new content.

1) Heists are coming to GTA Online (finally)

Rockstar Games says it’s finally bringing the highly anticipated online heists to Grand Theft Auto 5’s multiplayer mode, Grand Theft Auto Online, in an upcoming update that will hit all four consoles.

The addition of online heists is promised in an update for GTA Online scheduled to arrive after the re-release of the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Those versions are coming on Nov. 18 (tomorrow). Rockstar doesn’t precisely say when the online heists update is coming to GTA 5, but promises to provide details “very soon.”

Rockstar have promised to release the online version of GTA 5’s heists when the game released on xbox 360 and PS4 last year, but said it needed more time to develop the feature.

“We know many fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Online Heists that we had planned to release for you this spring, and they are taking more time to create than originally anticipated. We are very sorry for the delay, and are working hard to bring them to you as soon as we can,” Rockstar said in June.

In addition to the update on when we can expect GTA Online’s heists, Rockstar released some facts for GTA 5’s online mode. The company says GTA Online has been played by more than 33.8 million people over the past year for more than 2.3 billion collective hours. More details are available at the Rockstar Games website.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One this week, and will bring with it a new first-person view mode. The Windows PC version launches in January.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare successfully defends its position at the top of the Chart for a second week, despite strong competition from new contenders Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed: Unity has to settle for second place, just missing out on top spot. Older generation consoles (PS3/360) got a separate game, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue which debuts this week at No6. Combined sales of the two different ‘Assassin’s Creed’ titles would have seen it outsell Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare this week. Released on Tuesday, Halo: The Master Chief Collection enters at No3, one place ahead of FIFA 15 which is down 2 places to No4. It is the biggest launch for a Microsoft published Xbox One title and the 7th biggest Xbox One launch by any publisher. There are 6 new titles in the Top 10 this week with Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham making an appearance at No5, Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 new at No8 and World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor debuting at No9. Minecraft: Playstation Edition falls one place to No7, but sales are up thanks to its release on Playstation Vita this week. The Vita release is the biggest Minecraft retail launch on a Playstation console, outselling both PS3 and PS4’s debuts. It is the third biggest debut ever on Vita, behind console launch titles Uncharted: Golden Abyss and FIFA Football. The Top 10 is rounded off with Destiny, down from No5 to No10.
