The Update for week ending 29th March 2015

Hello Fellow Cravers. GD here to bring you this weeks top 3 gaming news stories, the top 5 games, new releases and a recap of YouTube of the week with the Update!

3) Free-to-play Halo Online arrives to Russia

Just like Call of Duty in China, Halo is bringing a free-to-play online game to Russia: Halo Online, currently in a closed beta there. But don’t expect to see it coming anywhere else anytime soon.

343 Industries, the Halo franchise’s developer, revealed the endeavor in a FAQ this week. The game is based on a modified version of the engine running Halo 3, which launched in 2007 — although never for PC. It’s a “free multiplayer only PC experience,” being developed with Saber Interactive, which worked on the high-definition remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Moscow-based Innova Systems is the game’s publisher.

“Halo Online was built from the ground up specifically for the PC,” 343 said. “There are no plans to bring Halo Online to the Xbox One.” Further, anyone trying to access the game outside of Russia could “theoretically” do so, but they “would have to go through region-specific changes to address player expectations.”

While there is no campaign mode, Halo Online does apply a little bit of background to players’ activities: They’re Spartan-IV trainees on a secret UNSC space installation, tasked with honing their battle skills and testing secret technology.

Halo Online “has no definitive launch date at this time,” 343 said.

2) Twitch captures the first 151 Pokemon

Twitch Plays Pokemon has done some impressive things, including beating al the pokemon games. But this has to be the most impressive yet, with all 151 original Pokemon now captured by the thousands of gamers controlling a single game of Pokemon on the streaming platform.

This edition of the social experiment began earlier in the year, offering a slight twist on earlier iterations. Players were tasked with working together to play a single game of Pokemon Red which was modified to include all original 151 Pokemon, including the rare Mew.

It’s taken 39 days for Twitch users to capture them all. You can watch as the players get the final necessary Pokemon, Mewtwo, in the video below.

Speaking with Polygon last year, the stream’s original creator, an Australian programmer who wishes to remain anonymous, explained that there currently is no end in sight for the frantic stream.

“I intend on running the stream for as long as it still has an active following,” the creator said.

After beating Pokemon Red for the first time, Twitch Plays Pokemon moved on to Pokemon Crystal and Pokemon Emerald, and many others since. So what is next for the Twitch ran Stream?

1) Crave Your Game is 1 year old this Wednesday

On April 1st, the Blog your on right now will reach a milestone of celebrating it’s 1 Year Anniversary. Now at the moment, apart from the CTG Podcast, we have no plans of what we are doing to celebrate this Anniversary. But I want to spend this news segment as a place to thank everyone who has supported Crave Your Game, from my family putting up with my constant working on random stuff for the site, Hanksy, Heavenly, Cajr, Doc, Ryn, Billy, Dark, Mysteryman, RedShimmy and other members of CTG and Con 3 who have helped me by making content for the site and the Youtube channel.

Also I want to thank Miss Wotsit, if it wasn’t for her giving me permission to make a news Blog to link with Crave The Game in the first place, we probabally wouldn’t have all the stuff we have done in the last year. From the CTG Podcast, a weekly podcast that started as a weekly audio podcast way back in July, to a streamed podcast that has it’s own dedicated channel on Twitch. The Update that has moved from being a weekly video on YouTube to the written version we have today. May seem like it has devolved but I even feel this is much better. The reviews from Doc, Cajr and me that have been fun to play and write. Also the YouTube channel, this has been one of my favourite parts, with us sending at least one video a day, every weekday.

I finally want to thank you for coming to this blog, in the end we do all this to entertain you all. Ok I do wish I have more time to add more to the site, plus I wish it was easier for me and the other members of CTG and Con 3 to make videos for YouTube. But you never know what will happen in the future for Crave Your Game. We have plans for more video series on Youtube, the CTG podcast keeps growing more and more every week, hopefully we will have more aricles on here too. Here is to many more years with Crave Your Game and again, Thank you Fellow Cravers!!

Battlefield Hardline fends off a strong challenge from Sony’s new PS4 exclusive Bloodborne to hold on to the No1 spot for a second week. Battlefield 4 may have had a slightly better launch week, but its successor has a better second week with sales only dropping by 43%. Bloodborne misses out on No1 by 22,500 units, almost making it 4 new IP No1 debuts in the first quarter of the year. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection continues the trend of relaunching old-gen titles as deluxe remastered games on PS4 and Xbox One, entering the chart at No3. Grand Theft Auto V drops one place to No4 remaining ahead of FIFA 15 which is a non-mover at No5. Sales of Dying Light are growing dimmer as it slips 2 places to No6. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Far Cry 4 both benefit from retailer promotions this week as CoD rises one place to No7 and Far Cry ten places to No8. Minecraft: Xbox Edition holds on to No9, but the Playstation version is not so lucky, dropping out of the Top 10 for the first time since week 7, slipping from No10 to No13. A small price drop gives The Order: 1886 a slight kick, pushing it back into the Top10 at No10.
