3) PC Gaming getting own E3 conference this year

PC gaming will have a stage spot at this year’s E3 with the PC Gaming Show, held Tuesday, June 16, in downtown Los Angeles, organizers recently announced.

The event takes place from 5 – 8 p.m. PT at the Belasco Theater, where it will be streamed live via Twitch. The event’s site promises game reveals, insight from “key PC developers” and more. Speakers include Cliff Bleszinski and Dean Hall, as well as developers such as Blizzard, Square Enix, Devolver Digital and Bohemia Interactive.

“PC gaming is in a golden age, with more powerful and affordable hardware than ever before, thousands of games available through Steam, Origin and other platforms, and millions of viewers regularly watching eSports online,” the announcement reads. “Now, for the first time, the PC platform will have its own event during E3, where the community will be able to celebrate this era with some of the biggest names in PC gaming and see the innovations that lie ahead.”

2) Dead Island 2 pushed back to 2016

Dead Island 2 publisher Deep Silver has delayed the open-world zombie-slaying game to 2016, the company announced this week on the franchise’s Twitter account.

“We have always set ourselves a big goal for Dead Island 2: to create the sequel that takes Dead Island to the next level,” said Deep Silver in a Twitlonger post. “We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to delay Dead Island 2 to 2016.”

Deep Silver announced Dead Island 2 during Sony’s E3 2014 press briefing, and said at the time that it planned to release the game in spring 2015. Last month, Deep Silver delayed another one of its big 2015 games, Homefront: The Revolution, into next year.

“Right now we are focusing purely on development, and we will have more info to share at a later stage,” Deep Silver said today. “We know that our fans will be disappointed by this news, but by giving Dead Island 2 more time we are confident that everyone will get a better game to play as a result.”

Dead Island 2 will be the fifth entry in Deep Silver’s Dead Island franchise, and the first to be made by Yager Development, the studio behind Spec Ops: The Line and the upcoming Dreadnought. Dead Island 2 is in development on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. For more, you can check out a trailer from August below and our in-depth coverage from E3.

1) The Last of Us: Left Behind to be stand alone DLC on May 12

Left Behind, the single-player downloadable content for The Last of Us, will be available as a standalone download on May 12, Naughty Dog community strategist Arne Meyer announced this week on the PlayStation Blog.

Left Behind acts as a prequel to The Last of Us and follows Ellie and her friend Riley. The content will be available on both PlayStation 3 and PS4 for $9.99. Naughty Dog will also lower the cost of the PS3 DLC to the same price as well.

“While part of the story of Left Behind takes place during the main narrative arc of The Last of Us,” Meyer wrote, “I think some of the best and most touching moments of any game in recent memory occur during the prequel segments, as we follow Ellie and Riley as they sneak out of boarding school to visit an abandoned mall, getting one final chance to enjoy their friendship before Riley leaves to join the Fireflies.”

The standalone version of Left Behind also includes a two hour trial of the The Last of Us’ Factions multiplayer mode, and allows buyers to upgrade to the full game if they choose.

UK GAME CHARTS

Another quiet week means the Top 3 are again unchanged with Mortal Kombat X taking its 3rd consecutive No1 crown. It needs one more week at the top to match the 4 week record set by Battlefield Hardline so far in 2015. Despite the lack of new releases the bank holiday weekend sees sales climb 6% across entertainment software. Grand Theft Auto V remains at No2 and sees a slight boost in sales while Battlefield Hardline is static at No3. FIFA 15 climbs a spot to No4 with retailer promotions on the Xbox 360 500GB FIFA hardware bundle driving the rise in sales. Minecraft: Playstation Edition is down to No5 but stays ahead of a resurgent Dying Light up two places to No6. Minecraft: Xbox Edition slides a place to No7 despite a slight increase in sales ahead of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare at No8. Halo: The Master Chief Collection climbs five places to No9. WWE 2K15 is a non-mover rounding off the top 10 for a second week.
