The Update for week ending 23rd August 2015

Hello Fellow Cravers. I am GD and I am here with this weeks top 3 gaming news stories, the top 5 games, new releases and a recap of YouTube of the week with the Update!

3) Republique is coming to PS4 early 2016

Republique, the episodic stealth-action game from indie studio Camouflaj, will be released in its entirety on PlayStation 4 in early 2016, announced publisher GungHo Online Entertainment America this week.

Camouflaj originally launched Republique’s first episode on iOS in December 2013. The second episode launched in May 2014, followed by the third on both Android (along with the first two chapters) and iOS in October. Camouflaj then launched Republique Remastered on Mac and Windows PC this past February. GungHo announced in June that it will publish the last two episodes of Republique.

When Republique launches on PS4, it will be the full game, including the yet-to-be-released Episode 4, “God’s Acre,” and Episode 5, “Terminus.” The game will be available digitally through the PlayStation Store, as well as at retail in North America and Europe.

“Having been so inspired by early PlayStation titles, it’s with much joy and a touch of irony that the full République experience will arrive on PS4,” said Ryan Payton, founder of Camouflaj, in a press release. “I can’t thank GungHo enough for supporting our efforts to faithfully translate République into a true console experience.”

The PS4 version of Republique will be playable for the first time at PAX Prime this weekend in GungHo’s booth (#3344).

2) Pokken Tournament is coming to Wii U next spring

Pokken Tournament, the Pokemon-meets-Tekken arcade fighter that hit Japanese arcades earlier this summer, will receive a worldwide release on Wii U next spring. The announcement came from the Pokemon World Championships, which were held this weekend in Boston, and was accompanied by a new trailer for the title, posted bellow. The console release announcement follows news that Dave & Busters, the North American arcade-restaurant chain, would be testing Pokken Tournament in select locations across the U.S. and Canada.

In much more important news, Pikachu Libre, a dressed-up version of the franchise mascot, was announced as a new fighter for the title. You can get a feel for his distinct, versatile fighting style in the trailer above.

1) Is the NX going to be digital Only?

Nintendo has filed a patent application for a console that has no optical disc drive, kicking up all sorts of speculation among enthusiasts of what the company’s next piece of hardware could look like or do.

The filing, made in February, was published on Thursday. Its schematic diagram shows a card slot, into which a memory card containing programs is inserted. The filing also shows an internal hard drive and the means of connecting an external one.

NeoGAFfers, who first spotted the filing, ruminated that the presence of a memory card and a slot could mean the return of a cartridge-based console for the first time since the Nintendo 64, nearly 20 years ago. Of course, it’s not clear what programs would be on such a memory card, or its size, whether this console would download games from a digital service to its internal drive, or whether it may even stream them.

Nintendo in March revealed it was working on a new console, for now called the NX, when it announced a partnership with the Japanese mobile games company DeNA. That partnership focuses on a membership service encompassing existing Nintendo hardware and the new console as well as smart devices and PCs.

Since then, Nintendo’s former president, the late Satoru Iwata, repeatedly fended off queries about the NX by saying the company would not be discussing its plans for the console until next year. Nintendo’s last official comment on NX came in early June, when the company denied a report that NX would use the Android operating system.

Warner Bros lead the pack again as Lego Jurassic World takes a second successive week at No1 and its 4th in total since launch. For the publisher it marks an impressive total of 11 weeks at the top for Warner titles (Dying Light, Mortal Kombat X, Lego Jurassic World and Batman: Arkham Knight) over 34 weeks. Grand Theft Auto V remains at No2 while Batman: Arkham Knight climbs a spot to make it two Warner titles in the Top 3. EA’s Battlefield Hardline moves up three places to No4. Minecraft: Xbox Edition at No5 & Minecraft: PlayStation Edition at No7 both deliver a slight increase in sales, sandwiching FIFA 15, which is down a place to No6. Dying Light continues to move up the chart climbing another two places to No8 and delivering increased sales for the 4th consecutive week. The Elder Scrolls Online slides from No3 to No9 but stays ahead of a resurgent Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which rounds of this week’s Top 10 at No10.
