The Update for week ending 2nd October

Hello Fellow Cravers. I am GD, we are back with the top 3 gaming news stories of the week, we have Top 5 games of the week, new releases for the next 3 weeks and a recap of YouTube of the week with the Update!

3)Nidhogg 2 is coming in 2017

A sequel to Nidhogg, the well-received 2D fencing game from indie developer Mark “Messhof” Essen, is in development for a 2017 release on Mac and Windows PC and “maybe some other platforms,” he announced this weekend.

As you can see in the teaser trailer above, Messhof is going with a very different look for Nidhogg 2. In the original game, characters were rendered in bright colors and flat 2D sprites, with relatively simple pixelated environments behind them. The sequel looks more like a modern indie game with a retro, 16-bit art style — except for the characters, which look like hairless nude models of Homer Simpson.

Nidhogg 2 will offer more than 10 levels of fencing action, including a single-player mode against a number of AI opponents that also features “special challenge rounds,” Messhof said in a press release. Essen is performing game design and art direction, while Toby Dixon is serving as the lead artist and handling animations. Kristy Norindr works on deal-making and music direction; Nidhogg 2 will feature music by Mux Mool, Dose One, Daedelus and more.

2)PlayStation Experience 2016 coming this December

Sony’s PlayStation Experience fan-focused event is coming back for 2016, though the show is moving to a new location this year: Anaheim, California. This year’s event will take place Dec. 3-4, Sony announced on the PlayStation Blog.

PlayStation Experience 2016 will feature hands-on time with the recently announced PlayStation 4 Pro — playable on 4K TVs — and “dozens of PlayStation VR demos, PlayStation Showcase, developer panels, merchandise, and a whole lot more,” Sony said. This year’s PlayStation Experience will also coincide with Capcom’s Street Fighter 5 Capcom Cup tournament. The Capcom Cup finals will take place on Saturday, Dec. 3, starting at 6 p.m. PT.

Tickets for this year’s PSX are on sale now. A two-day early bird ticket costs $60, while regular priced two-day tickets run $75. Saturday-only tickets are priced at $45 and Sunday-only tickets cost $40.

The inaugural PlayStation Experience was held in 2014 in Las Vegas. Last year, the show moved to San Francisco. The show typically follows another end-of-year event, The Game Awards, which will be held Dec. 1 this year.

1)Grand Theft Auto next major update to be Bikers

Battleborn may soon be free to play, Kotaku is reporting. A source close to developer Gearbox Software say that the multiplayer action game will adopt the free-to-play model later this year.

Kotaku’s unnamed source said that Gearbox and publisher 2K could announce the change as soon as this November. Although it launched earlier this year at full price, Kotaku’s source noted that Battleborn was intended to be free-to-play from the get-go, until 2K changed course.

Sales have slowed for Battleborn since its launch in early May, and the game has struggled to topple its closest competitor, which arrived at the end of that month.Comparisons between the two have often left Battleborn as the butt of a joke, despite some positive reviews.

Transforming the $60 retail release into a free-to-play title is not unprecedented for 2K, whose controversial survival-based multiplayer game Evolve has found renewed success since it became a free download. 2K pulled the paid version of Evolve this summer, only to relaunch it under the name Evolve Stage 2 shortly thereafter.

Kotaku’s source also said that Gearbox Software is indeed publishing a remaster of Bulletstorm, following a possible leak earlier today when a rating popped up on Brazil’s classification board. We’ve reached out to Gearbox about both moves and will update when we hear back.

EA bring down the curtain on Q3 with a record-breaking launch for FIFA 17. The latest addition to the football franchise is almost 18% up on the debut week of FIFA 16. It also edges past FIFA 13 to become the highest week one in the series ever. PS4 takes over 53% of week 1 share despite the presence of the Xbox One S (1TB & 500GB) editions, both of which include a copy of the game. Xbox One still accounts for a healthy share over 40%, while both Xbox 360 and PS3 combine for a 6% share.

Xbox One exclusive Forza Horizon 3 races comfortably into second place eclipsing the week 1 sales of last year’s Forza Horizon 2. It also takes a podium spot for week 1 sales for Forza (both Motorsport & Horizon) titles placing as the 3rd best launch for the series overall.

Various retail promotions allow previous chart topper Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens to climb up to No3. Bioshock: The Collection slips down to No4 after back to back weeks at the top of the chart. Xcom 2 lands at No5 for both PS4 and Xbox One charting as a re-entry thanks to the PC version, which launched in February this year. Destiny: The Collection drops three places to No7 in its second week.

Elsewhere in the Top 40 Super Mario 3D World is bolstered by the arrival of Nintendo Selects version, propelling it up to No32. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 continues it’s week on week growth up to No39.
