The Update for week ending 26th March 2017

Hello Fellow Cravers. I am GD,sorry we are running late this week, but here we are with the top 3 gaming news stories of the last week, we have Top 5 games of the week, new releases for the next week and a recap of YouTube of the week with the Update!

3)Lethal League coming to consoles this May

Lethal League, the four-player fighting game that’s gotten positive reception since its launch on PC in 2014, launches May 10 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, maker Team Reptile has announced.

“From the moment we started the development of Lethal League some years ago we felt that the ideal way to play this game would be on consoles,” the developers said in a statement. “It’s a big milestone for us to finally release our first console title, with Lethal League we believe we will make a solid console debut.”

This version required the two-man indie studio to completely rebuild the game, a news release said. Doing so allowed the Netherlands-based Team Reptile to localize the game for eight languages.

Lethal League is somewhat hard to describe in how it blends motifs and features of fighting games and arcade sports titles. It’s better to just watch the video above. The game’s stylish art and music is a big part of its appeal, too; the news release touted sales of more than 400,000 via Steam since its August 2014 debut there.

2) Ryse and Walking Dead Headline April’s Games with Gold

Microsoft’s Games With Gold lineup for April features games from a few major franchises alongside an Xbox One launch title, the company announced today.

Crytek’s Ryse: Son of Rome will be free all month long on Xbox One. The other game on the console is The Walking Dead: Season Two — all five episodes — which will go free from April 16 through May 15.

On the Xbox 360 side, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to get a free copy of the original Darksiders from April 1-15. The final entry in the Assassin’s Creed Ezio trilogy, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, will be free during the second half of the month, from April 16-30.

Here is the full list for April:

  • Ryse: Son of Rome
  • The Walking Dead: Season Two
  • Darksiders
  • Assassin’s Creed Revelations

In the meantime, you can still pick up some of the March games. PopCap Games’ Heavy Weapon is free on Xbox 360, while Xbox One owners can download the multiplayer shooter Evolve and the horror game Layers of Fear.

1)Destiny 2 date leaked? Coming 8th September?

Two different images of retail Destiny 2 poster give the game a Sept. 8 release date.

The two different posters, which appear with Italian text, show three Guardians beside a Destiny 2 logo. One image appeared on Italian gaming website Lega, while the other appeared on Imgur.

While we know that Destiny’s sequel is coming this year, most recently confirmed by Activision, this poster is the closest we know to a timeline beyond the initially stated fall 2017 release window. While the Italian/European date could be different from the worldwide launch, it seems less likely for a game with a global server structure.

Destiny was released worldwide on Sept. 9, 2014; Destiny: The Taken King (the start of Year 2) was released worldwide on Sept. 15, 2015; and Destiny: Rise of Iron (start of year 3) was released worldwide on Sept. 20, 2016.

As one Twitter user pointed out, PlayStation 4 users could be getting the beta early, based on the corner of this poster, pictured above. In 2014, the original Destiny beta reached PS4 players a week early.

What we do know, from the same earnings call’s Q&A, is Destiny’s sequel will have a “great cast of memorable, relatable characters” as well as a “cinematic storyline.” It will also be more accessible for “someone who wants a great, more casual first-person experience” and will be going into more international markets than ever before.

EA unleash Mass Effect: Andromeda for the first time on PS4 and Xbox One and the combined sales of console/pc versions give EA the No1, their first since December last year (FIFA 17).

The original Mass Effect debuted on Xbox 360 at No12 on the Top 40 back in Nov ’07, but since then EA have always debuted at No1 with this series (Mass Effect 2 back in January, 2010 and Mass Effect 3 back in March, 2012). Week 1 series highpoint is still Mass Effect 3, which was the first to see all versions released in the same week (Xbox360/PS3/PC), with PC box taking 10% of sales units back then.

Mass Effect Andromeda is the 3rd biggest launch of the year so far (behind the recent releases of Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Wildlands and Horizon Zero Dawn) and Andromeda has the 3rd best week 1 for the Mass Effect franchise in terms of physical sales. Mass Effect Andromeda shows a sales unit split of 55% PS4, 41% Xbox One and just 4% on PC, with an undivulged quantity having sold through EA Origin on PC (and also of course PSN / Xbox Live).

Ubisoft drop from 2 successive weeks at No1 to No2 this week with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Warner also drop 1 place to No3 with Lego Worlds and Sony continue to drop 1 place per week since launch with Horizon: Zero Dawn now No4. Microsoft’s Halo Wars 2 is one of the Xbox One high climbers this week, up 15 places to No11, driven by a major retail promotion during the week. Also climbing strongly are Microsoft’s Rare Replay up 9 places to No18 and Ryse: Son of Rome up 6 places to No25, thanks to hardware bundling.
